Are you a young couple considering your first home purchase but are finding it difficult to find what you need in your price range?  Or perhaps you are empty nesters looking to downsize and create time freedom?

Have viewed apartment style condominiums and while they are in your price range and offer the requisite convenience you have realized that they are not for everybody. A townhouse could be your perfect solution.

A townhouse is defined by the Encarta English Dictionary as, “a two or three-story house, semidetached, or in a row of similar houses and with limited yard space, usually in a fashionable neighborhood”.  The key word in this definition is house which distinguishes them from apartment style condos. A townhouse has its own distinct street address and a traditional entrance. They offer several other unique advantages to discerning buyers.

Affordability – Due to the fact that construction costs are shared between several units in the “row”, townhouses are generally marketed at prices much lower than single family detached houses. This allows you to purchase newer and larger dwellings.

Low Maintenance – Living in a townhome can save you time by reducing or eliminating yard work. Townhomes typically have small easy to maintain outside spaces. In some cases townhome owners pay a monthly strata fee which often includes the maintenance of both the yard and the exterior of the home. So, if mowing grass, trimming bushes, or painting the house is not your thing, then this will be an attractive benefit, allowing more time to recreate with your family.

Get to know your neighbors – People that live in townhouses report that there is an excellent sense of community.  So not only can it be more fun to live in a townhome but there is the added benefit of improved security. Neighbors come together to protect each other and to be available when, for example, you lock your keys in the house and need to make a phone call.

Offering affordability, low maintenance, and great sense of community a townhouse could be the perfect home for you.
